Initial theory is that someone who is supposed to be dead right now is the culprit. They were not dead when they murdered Nanjo. And then they expired afterwards. The main issue that we can see in this episode is that Beatrice is so, so happy to lie about everything not in red.

It calls into question, so, so much of what is actually true.

Like, was Virgilia actually her master? Will Virgilia appear going forwards? Will people actually become Beatrice from solving the epitaph in future too? Why did Virgilia even help Battler in the first place with the whole schrodinger's cat thing if she was just a fabrication by Beatrice? From what point Beatrice started lying is so, so important here, and it's so hard to tell.

I think it's kind of a really weird thing where Virgilia is a force presented to us as a helper to Battler, but flips around right at the end during Insane Beatrice Hour. It brings into question how much of the chapter Virgilia was acting as an agent of Beatrice or if she was acting on her own volition. It makes it really weird to say anything about it in the first place until I get a little more information.

For the sake of the truth, I have to assume that Beatrice was never telling the truth in the first place. That from the moment she started acting tsundere and overwhelmed, it was all for the sake of "I am going to trick Battler with my elaborate plan and make him kill himself at the end".

At the same time, I do want to believe in her. If I actually had to say what I think/want to think is going on, I think she probably did start feeling shitty that the one person who is actively engaging with her hates her, and as such, either actually started to feel a little bad (not about the cruel murders, just about how Battler was rejecting her). In this theory, at the end she is just saving face. Trying to revert back to what a witch "should" be.

The thing that fucks me up about all of it is like. I have to accept that both Ryukishi AND Beatrice was willing to show us so much of a fake Beatrice.

Maybe it could be something with Homunculus Beatrice taking hold over the Witch Beatrice and causing her to be kinder, more unsure of herself. And like, why the fuck did we let Beatrice spirit bomb everyone like that if that was all fake. It's just so, so baffling. I refuse to believe that it means nothing. I have to be able to derive something from this. Ryukishi wouldn't just write a whole game of senseless agony, I learned that from Higurashi. I just need to figure out what this tells me about Beatrice.

Either:

She is so cruel and disrespectful towards her opponent in the game that she's willing to completely lie and deceive Battler literally JUST to make him feel like shit, after they start to get on a bit better.

Or she genuinely does care and wants Battler to think well of her, and isn't sure of herself and her role as a witch. I think this is more likely due to the theme of love, and of identity that keeps being brought up. The way Lambda was talking to her seems to suggest that too, with her being a lesser witch.

It's also fucked because like, I need to justify so so much about past Beatrice too. Beatrice had to exist when Rosa saw her. That much is true.

She probably also existed when Kinzo needed her gold.

So. Simple thought is that OG Beatrice had a kid with Kinzo, then died. And the kid is Homunculus Beatrice who Kinzo brought up to be exactly the same as OG Beatrice, trying to sculpt her into being the exact same person. This is probably where Witch Beatrice remembers her "Grandfather" memories from. Maybe Kumasawa deadass used to look like that. Maybe Kinzo used to force Kumasawa to dress up like that to enforce this idea of "you are a witch" for Homunculus Beatrice or something like that.

I don't think I gained any information that can really help me with past chapters during this one. The fact that humans are the only ones involved might come up at some point in the future. As well as the fact that doors cannot have anything slip by them like that. I'll keep these in mind for future chapters.

I am assuming that yeah, probably the third twilight was done by done by them killing eachother, then something made one of them not actually die (due to them not being confirmed dead in red at that time). Then that person walked over to Nanjo and stabbed him with something(?) from outside the room. Then promptly died themself, letting Eva Beatrice confirm them as dead.

I have no clue how Jess got from one room to another. Either she deadass walked out of the Servant room all by herself, or the killer was someone who tried to hide her away first to keep her safe or something like that, then they both died. I dunno man its all FUCKED.

I still think that it's all humans for all the crimes, I just haven't been able to figure out what the motivations for each time would be. It's a hard thing to decide - I have to assume that each time, different people are getting influenced by an outside force in order to kill and complete the twilights. I don't know why it has to be the same people every time. That would suggest that someone wants it to look like the work of Beatrice, but only the Kinzo faction and Maria would really have a stake in that claim. I could imagine Kinzo influencing people each time with the promise of gold or something, but it really falls apart when you get stuff like every Kinzo faction person dying all at once.

There's a ton for me to think about and consider, but like, if I simplify it a ton.

First Twilight - ?????? Locked room with the last person getting in an accident

Second Twilight - Eva sneaking out with Hideyoshi covering for her

Third Twilight - Killing eachother, one guy didn't die

Krauss and Natsuhi - Eva just killed them? and dumped them out the house?

George - WAIT HOW DID THIS GUY ESCAPE ACTUALLY I TOTALLY GLOSSED OVER THAT. He probably left the house to try and see Shannon again and got killed by the person who was still alive. Either that or Eva genuinely snuck out and killed him too. Maybe because he saw her kill people and followed her? Or because he genuinely talked to a magic Eva/believed he did.

Nanjo - Alive guy killed him then died after.

Jess - didn't die????? she went missing??? so she went over to the parlor and genuinely got away? or just stayed in the servant room?

FUCK. I think I might revisit this and look at the whole Krauss and Natsuhi death again. And the George bit. But for now, I'm happy to carry on.

I think Beatrice has remorse. And we can hopefully convince her of that in the future. She just wants to be seen and known, just like anyone else.
